Another lance-leaf Caladium, the ‘Green Pearl’ cultivar is less showy than the related ‘Thai Beauty’ but as beautiful with its dark green veins deepening into a deep purple near the stem, set upon a creamy white background. Painting a leaf that already looks painted was a lot of fun!

As with the other caladiums, I approached this leaf by painting the background first and then working in the detailed veins and patterns using a fine miniature brush. The specimen leaf was curling inwards slightly, so I added in several light washes of a greenish brown to convey this effect, to make the leaf look 3D.
