Many of the Rex begonias I have painted are also known as ‘Painted Leaf begonias’ and it is easy to see why, particularly with this one that has bright red margins around the serrated edge, making it look like it’s on fire.

I enjoyed painting this leaf, particularly the edges to show the areas where the spiky edge curled inwards, to develop the sharp angles and texture of the leaf. Mixing the correct raspberry shade of pink was tricky; it’s hard to believe that nature could come up with such a colour, but there it is!
