Probably one of the more common Begonias, this leaf has a beautiful dusky pink edge around it contrasting with deep purple/brown veins that radiate out from the centre of the leaf.

I was very keen to make sure the tiny undulations of the leaf texture in the central section came through in the painting. I used a damp brush and some kitchen roll to carefully lift the colour to convey the central veins that were lighter than the surrounding rich browns; overall this leaf was an exercise in colour mixing and brush skills and took me a long time to do.
