Caladiums are grown from tubers, and produce large colourful leaves. They can be somewhat fussy to grow because the leaves are not shy about making it known if they are not happy with their conditions. However, it is very rewarding when the ideal levels of light and humidity are met, as they push out leaf after leaf from the tuber to create a bushy clump of beautiful leaves. ‘White Christmas’ is a popular cultivar that has a delicate dark green pattern on a creamy white background.

I found this leaf easy to get lost in, because the veins got smaller and smaller the more detail I added; I started this painting with a number 3 brush for the veins and went down to my smallest 2/0 brush! I also had to make sure that the leaf still showed depth, particularly where the stem connects to the back of the leaf.
