The Green Indoors is a guide for identifying plant matches for home environments to ensure healthy and happy houseplants. I was commissioned to illustrate the troubleshooting chapter of the book, which deals with common ailments affecting houseplants. The brief required me to paint Ficus leaves suffering from various ailments as well as a healthy Ficus plant - example images shown below.

I worked closely with the book’s editor and one of the authors to create 15 bespoke watercolour illustrations; their feedback is included here.

“Nimalka painted 15 illustrations for The Green Indoors. Her artwork was exactly what we were looking for and we were impressed with her attention to detail. Nimalka easily understood the brief and she kept us updated with regular photos of the work in progress. We love the final illustrations and feel they really bring the book to life.”

— Maddie Bailey, co-author of The Green Indoors and co-owner of Forest London

“Nimalka was incredibly easy to work with – communicative, efficient and creative in her approach. The illustrations she delivered were exactly as we hoped for and made all the difference to the book.”
